There might be ugly Betty in York, but the Yorkers do not describe Bettys in such a way, instead, delicions is the word they use.
The very first time I was standing outside Bettys, looking at the long queue, thinking that I would never wait for it. The second time I was standing outside, looking at the long queue, thinking that I must go in because of the long queue.
Why lined for Bettys anyway? Why don't you ask those people who have not missed Bettys for their high tea?
From what I've heard, the cheesecake from Bettys is a must try. Besides that, I have also treated myself a slice of lemon and lime cake. Being seated at the lower ground, isolated from the crowds outside, mingled with a bunch of pretty much indulged Yorkers, I thought I was in heaven savouring the melting piece of cake.
It wasn't that nice anyway because the cheese did not melt. But why they lined for Bettys anyway? The answer goes in a very simple way, ask yourself what have you wished to get from a cafe for a high tea session Despite the overrated cheesecake, I had enjoyed the most from its flourish ambience yet approachable character. Snug, cosy and warm...are the words.
